Green + Crop

Siuslaw National Forest

Another from my recent trip to Oregon. It was green overload on this one. Difficult processing too. Two image blend for dynamic range. I was really digging the mossy right side of the image and the forest views of the ferns and trees - so I included them. I am just looking for feedback as to what you all think.

I've included a large for your viewing pleasure.

Very nice Michael.
Great flow through the composition with that luminous green.
There a slight disconnect in the flow which is minor in the scheme of things but it weakens the strength
of line in the composition a little.

Top shelf.

Great place and very nice capture, Michael. The greens are intense - I like that. Rodney has a point with the compositional issue - the left is just very strong and the eye has a hard time to go to the trees on the right very easily. But once you're there it's really lovely and adds a nice mood to the scene.

Michael, your rather complex composition works well for me. I find many points of interest and enjoy exploring this image. It is interesting to me how you counterpoint the different characters of the flow in the near and distance.

Michael - Looks like it was unavoidable keeping the falls free of tree branches from this angle - moves to the right or left would bring different limbs into the compostion. Beautful scene as is-processing looks great. Why are greens so difficult to process realisticly? I have the same issue too.

Michael, it looks like this was a tough area to get a strong composition of, but I think you managed it well. Your processing of this lush green scene looks good to me.

Processing looks great Michael, I'm not completely sold on the comp though. I think it's the FG that's throwing it off for me. I might consider cropping it into a pano to include just the falls and the ferns on the right.

Beautiful composition. Perfect greens. Gives a great sense of the wildness of the place.

A beautiful forest waterfall scene, Michael. I also dig the mossy bank on the right, and the way it curves around into the shot. The blend looks very good, although it feels the tree trunks on the right are a tad bright. Excellent work with the color.

Nice!! I like this one a lot. I hear where folks are coming from on the comp, but the upper right is beautiful and as nice for me as the falls. I like Zack's idea, but would crop to just below the rock on the left, rmoving the bright water at the edge of the frame which tends to pull the eye away (from the lead into the falls that the upper right gives).

Thanks everyone for your comments.
@ David - I don't disagree with you about the right. It was the most difficult part of the image to blend. I kept it a little light on purpose to try to accentuate the tree trunks.
@ John + Zack - enclosed is a crop. I personally like the flow line in the immediate fg, but I can also see where some might find it too busy. I also slightly cropped the right for balance.

Thanks again.

The larger version has better luminosity and the increased detail is excellent. A definite must see. I do like the cropped version slightly more. Still, a gorgeous scene and the greens are grand.

Beautiful spring scene Michael. I like the moss on the right side too, and for me including it was a good choice here. I can see other comps working, but I really like what you did here. I just love looking at the large version! I like both the versions you have here now. At first I thought the crop was a little better, but as I look at it more I seem to lean towards the original. The detail is awesome too. Fantastic work Michael.

I like it Michael, it's a typically busy NW forest scene. I think you've got two images here. The stream in the fg with the beautifully lit trees as a bg and then I might move to the left and shoot just the falls. The jumble of logs and branches just left of center disrupt the scene a little too much IMO.This is very much like my "home turf" and I've worked many scenes similar to this and usually prefer the tighter more intimate comp over the wider view. Still, a beauty with great colors, details and light.

Michael looks like a beautiful area. I think you blended this nicely.
I could see a near square crop version as well.
Well done.

Crop looks good, it eliminates the distracting water at the bottom of the frame in the original. :wavey:
