Bobwhite - running

This Northern Bobwhite was calling on an old fence post yesterday morning. He was very cooperative, which is unusual in my experience, and it was fun listening to him call and hear the response from the other side of the road. This continued for several minutes, then he hopped down and ran down the road. I followed along side slowly, and captured this image. I may have been in motion myself for this image; I can't say for sure but it seems probable. 7D, f/8, ISO 400, 1/1250, 300mm, slight crop. C&C always welcome and appreciated.

Looks like you really captured this bird in mid stride, Rob! Sharp image (except for what looks like a little bit of inconsequential motion blur in one foot.....this one must really have been traveling!). Fine view of detail and color in the feather pattern. The bird does blend into the bg quite well; you could experiment with methods of isolating it more (e.g. blurring the bg, darkening the bg, etc.). Also, of course, next time if you could encourage this bird to come towards us instead of away from us the shot would be more intimate [I'm beginning to envy birders who only need to see a bird and not take a photograph!]

Rob:
Good work stopping the action in mid stride while in mid stride. I like the action and detail in the running bird.
I'm smiling trying to imagine a posture of the photographer running along side the Bobwhite that would allow a shot from a lower angle.

Thanks for the comments. I wish he had turned more towards me, but he didn't :(. It might be fun trying to keep up with one of these one foot :).
