Low Water

Another image where the water is low and alligators congregate. I mentioned in the last post how the canals had dried for lack of rain. There were so many gators in this one that it was difficult to compose an image. Note the green water, which by the way, seemed to contain no fish.
These boys had to be hungry, and by the way they gathered around my boot, which was an inch from the water at times, I sensed that hunger.
I often shoot from the water, but not this time.

D3s 70-200 f/11 1/90, Iso 1250, tripod.

Well seen Wayne, the dark bodies amidst the green water creates an interesting random pattern. Very menacing feel! Excellent image. So many carnivores in a small space must place a lot of pressure on the environment.

Interesting shot Wayne in that based on eye contact, only two of them don't seem to be interested in you. Probably a smart move not to enter the water this time

Although I would imagine it's plenty warm down your way, looking at this image and reading what you write make me think a chill will come on even so ;^)

Must be a real thrill to be so close to so many of these Gators out in the wild. Thanks as always for sharing them with us Wayne :^)

This has to me at least an extremely strange appearance, but I like it a lot. I am left wondering what the outcome may have been if you had knelt down, not that I would recommend doing it.

So you chickened out did you Wayne  Sounds like you made a good judgement call! The situation must be horrible for the alligators, but I can imagine that it can be great for wildlife photographers trying to get some unique images. I must say I have never seen so many alligator or crocs together except in a croc farm! Very interesting scene which offered many different (of which some probably dangerous to undertake) angles I think. Lower angles could produce interesting images, but this angle at least shows well how many there are in one small area. Thanks for sharing.

This is a very interesting image and story. Maybe a similar posting in EPJ? Hope you can follow-up with more images from this situation. Good sharpness, almost gives the impression all eyes are on you when veiwing the photo. Thanks for sharing.

That's quite a sight, almost an alligator abstract. Your composition works well.

Looks like they are arranged in a pattern for this image, and it's very, very interesting. I really hope we get some rain soon, a lot of it.

Hey Wayne,

OK, I'll bite - what the heck was off to the lower right side that attracted the attention of so many of these gators? I like the simplicity and composition of this image, and my only real wish is that the lighter reflections were toned down a little. Did you by any chance use a polarizer here? If not, it might have been worth trying - it may have pulled those reflections back somewhat...

Thanks for sharing this - I'm crossing my fingers that you get some rain...
