Indian Pinks

Just too hot to do much today. Spent the better part of the morning at our local Arboretum where I found a patch of Indian Pinks; an outstanding source of nectar for hummingbirds. I may need to plant these in my yard.

"Lamp White Brush" texture (from Flypaper Textures) was applied to the original image, set the blending mode to Multiply with 69% opacity. I then applied "Beneath the Surface 2" texture (from Shadowhouse Creations), set the blending mode to Multiply with 84% opacity.

More light was needed on the center flower so I used Color Efex Pro 2 - Darken/Lighten Center. A bit more cropping and the image was done.

I was shooting with a Nikon D7000 with Tamron Macro lens 90mm and there was a slight breeze. I felt this image needed the texture to compensate for the slight blur on the flower, but overall I think the textures work.

Since I used a "plug-in" filter, this image does not go into the June Challenge. Your comments are greatly appreciated.

I really like the colors you have here. Nice dynamic comp too.

The texturing works very well. These are interesting flowers (I've got something similar blooming in my garden) and your painterly treatment adds to the sense of movement.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by and your comments. These flowers were in a special section of the gardens that were planted in memory of a special lady. Another hot one today so I'll just stay in and process more images. Thanks again.

Thanks Barbara and Lorna. Working with textures is something still new for me, but I love how they transform an image. I'll be posting more! Thanks again.
