Canon EOS 7D, EF 500mm f/4L IS USM + 1.4x TC @ 700mm, Aperture Priority @ f/5.6 (1/200 sec), 0 EV, ISO 640, Cropped About 50% in Total from Full Frame

Subject: Black & Red Broadbill

Location: Kinabatangan River, Sukau, Sabah, Bornean Malaysia

Had a few opportunities to photograph this beautiful species of Broadbill before on my last trip to Borneo as well as on mainland Malaysia last February, but never with very pleasing results. On this occasion, however, I ended up smiling ear to ear :^)

Hope you like it too, though thoughts and suggestions are welcomed as always, thanks for your time :^)

Wow, Ashley. Really cool image. Great bird and I love the pose. Very unusual bill. In some ways it looks like photoart. Love this one!!

Stunning image Ashley, love the way the colors of the bird stand out. You really nailed the exposure, comp, dof...nice job! Held up very nicely to the crop.

Beautiful bird Ashley and I think this one is very nicely composed with the branch coming down across the frame and the bird's pose.

Just perfect, Ashley. I prefer these photos of yours where the PS work is kept to a minumum and the photo is made by the photographer. You really go this one right. I would be smiling too. :toast:

Nice color, pose, detail and composition. But, it does not seem quite as sharp as some of your other images, could just be me green with envy! thanks for sharing.

Lovely image Ashley:toast: :toast: - I was there in October, but didn;t get many shots as my lens broke halfway through - I wish I could have had the 200-400 there.

Interesting feather pattern and amazing colors all in the same bird, what a treasure to find and view and still be able to get a photograph of one. You just never know when opportunity will present itself, good job in getting this shot, way to go.

Ashley - one of my favourites of yours for sure. Great subject for starters, but you sure showed him off beautifully. Excellent techs as always and wonderful comp and DOF. Just a fantastic image...you should be smiling still.
