I often photograph the interesting shapes of wild onions. They pop up in droves on my ranch! This one I thought was just perfect. It looks like magic how it is slowly unfurling - like it is being born.

I think I would of rather have the point sharp and the rest out of focus. interesting plant though.

I love the look of this subject, Lucy! I like your comp, BG, and the various shades of green. I agree with Todd's suggestion re focusing on the front. The whole subject is interesting though, so I might have tried to have it all in focus if it would be possible. Great eye to find this. It's amazing what interesting things are all around us if we just take the time to look.

Thanks guys. Next time I'll take 2 different DOF shots and see what I think. This time, I chose to focus on the spiral, because of the beautiful shape. I did not want the the point distracting anyone from the spiral.
I just noticed, that I need to take out the wisp of onion on the right, inside the open spiral, and on the top rt of the bud to give it a "sleeker" (more professional) look...
Thank you so much for looking and taking the time to comment.
These onions have some of the most original shapes of any plant I've photographed. I hope everyone enjoys "these little marvels" !

The spiral is very cool and I can see why you liked it. The "shades of green" image is also interesting. The out of focus tip above the spiral is like a poke in the eye. If only nature would provide what we photographers want.....
