Blue Iris

This image is a surprise for me. We have always loved the blues, but until I took a bloom to the inside lights it never gave the glow to the edges as it does here. I have had to dampen the whites somewhat as they were blown and too stark.

Please be brutally honest am I giving my images too much boost by useing the "vivid" setting on my camera settings. Any other feeling you have about processing or over boosting I'd like to here.

These are the ex-if from the RAW file:

Olympus E-5
50mm F 2 macro
aperture priority
1/25 sec @ F 8, -0.7 EV
flash off, 2 umbrella relected lights
pict, mode vivid
Saturation +2
ISO 200
manual focus

Large view provided.

Thanks in advance for any comments. Very much appreciated

Charlie,

I like the composition. I also like the color against the black bg. I might like a bit more dof in this but I've got no problem with the saturated color. In my mind it's pretty much a matter of what you want to say with the image. As I'm sure you know, capture in low light also means richer more saturated color. I like the image as posted and I particularly like the color as posted.

Beautiful flower, Charlie. Since you are shooting RAW, you could always boost the degree of vividness, but I like the image as posted. Only suggestion might be darkening the stem.

Cheers,

Carol

I'm going to be "brutally honest" Charlie . . . . whatever it is that your doing to capture images like this, "KEEP ON DOING THE SAME!" Really beautiful, I would be thrilled to have this Iris in my collection.

Excellent Portrait of the Iris flower, Charlie. Its really well done, so I don't have any serious critiques at all. If you are so inclined, you can think of cloning some natural blemishes on the petals but its not a must and does not hurt the image in anyway

Charlie:
I am liking all of your images lately! This one is no exception. The colors are fine and the presentation with the black bg really makes this pop. Well done.

Thanks so much for you opinions on my processes. I love this shot also and felt the lights works so well on it that I began to think I'm overdoing things. You are like calibrating me.
