This image was shot in the Khutzeymateen, after watching this mother and cubs for some time she started slowly walking toward the bush line. just before she entered the trees she turned around and stud up almost saying well nice meeting you guys ill see you later and walked into the bush.

In post i did not do to much to this image processed one lighter raw file for the bear and cub, masking with brush tool. brushing with about 15 percent opacity. small amount of the smart sharpen filter. cropped to make vertical image shot as landscape.

Interesting to see a bear standing up you really get a better idea of how big these bears are and those are very big claws, well done.

Very interesting positions. I do wish the top of the standing bears head did not blend into the BG as much as it does, but still a very impressive image. Thanks for sharing. Must be a great place to visit.

That's a great pose. I would like to see more of the details in the dark regions.

Hey mark

Thanks for the comments on this image, I kept the background dark in this image but still have all the detail in and can be recovered if needed, this is how I saw the photo so I tried to match what I saw when doing post processing. But I'm very new at shooting wild life I think it's been all of a month and a half so far, so I have tons to learn and will always be learning.

Cheers

Hey Shawn,

Pose is great and you can certainly tell Ma is still nursing! The dark "jungle-like" background works well for me. I do think that both bears are very slightly darker than optimal and that some black-on-black (or "dark-on-dark") detail on the bears that would strengthen the image is missing. Note that I'm talking a very small amount - increasing the exposure of the bears too much here (like anything more than 1/2 stop or so) would definitely produce an "artificial" looking scene (i.e, almost like flash-fill was used). Choice to go vertical here was good and I think both the crop and positioning of the subjects within the frame works well.

Cheers...

I think this is stunning Shawn, wouldn't change a thing. The dark background with hanging moss gives a glimpse of the shadowy world of the west coast rainforest where these bears exist. Great timing to catch the mother in the standing pose, too good!!! Were you shooting this scene with a smaller lens as well to show more habitat?

Hey Gary
Thanks for the comments on this image great to get all the feed back from the members.

In regards to shooting this scene with a shorter Len I didn't have time she stood up for all of a few seconds and just barley had the time to move focus points and frame the shot on the fly. Then she walked in the rain forest.

Cheers
