WC487 - Clear the Deck!

Taken on the tide flats where the eagles and seagulls were competing for the salmon stranded in the fast receding, shallow tide water. The seagulls were feasting on a salmon when the eagle dove in to steal it from them. I saw the scene developing as the eagle circled tighter and tighter around the seagulls so I was ready for the landing. I caught the eagle as it flared for the landing and the seagulls scrambled to get out of the way.

I always like images with different animal species within a single frame, and this is no exception.
A good balance of landscape and animals, and the images shows different stages of flying. "How wonderful would it be to be a bird and just be able to fly".

If I have to mention one thing it would be the gull on the far left with his head cut-off.

Great details, timing, and POV Gary - I like the the "scatter" action too, it provides good interest & tells a story.
I especially like the wider view angle that includes the shoreline and mountain BG.
Well done! :toast:

This is very nice as it is. Going for the landscape here is an interesting option. Going for the portrait - losing the mountains and picking up the full reflection of the eagle would have rocked.

I like this as it is. The incoming eagle surrounded by scattering gulls. The background adds a lot to the scene.

dNice image. Your preparations paid off. I love the scattering of gulls and the position of the eagles wings. The texture in the water isn't hurting anything either. Great job

I do wish that one gull hadn't lost his head - but other that that, I think this is gorgeous. An image like this is incredibly dynamic even though you've frozen the action with your camera. I like the colors too - especially since the birds all stand out so nicely against the subtle blues and greens.

Great action shot. Nice suggestion of reflections in the water and composition.
