I believe that this is a male Canada Goose driving off the competition with the female calmly looking on. I photographed this action recently near the Credit River just outside of Toronto.

I like the way the splashes follow the goose in the foreground. He really does look like he's walking on water! I would have liked a little more DOF on this one. However, there was not much light to work with on this cloudy day.

All comments most welcome.

I agree, he really looks like he's walking on the water! Very cool image and it's perfect for this challenge.

Cool image! I love the water splashing everywhere and the different wing positions.

The front guy definitely looks like he's walking on water, but the back guy almost looks like he's water skiing!

The action in this shot is fantastic! I think the image could be improved by cropping some dead space from the top and bottom. There's nothing going on there, and removing those areas would get us even closer to the action. Not too close, though! They need a little space to move. The sharpness on the bird behind is just right - I love that you can see his head behind the bird in front... the way his head is lowered makes it clear how serious he is about defending his territory. I agree with you - a bit more depth of field would have been nice... just enough to bring that front bird into focus. Still - I like what you've done with this. It's really nice! Well done!

Fine composition, splash, and the passive female a good touch.
