Storm Coming

Took this a couple years ago while on a float trip down the Yampa River in Dinosaur National Monument NW Colorado. Climbed up to the top of the cliff from the river just in time to see the sky turn menacing. Luckily, it didn't rain! At least not on us!

Looks like a heck of a climb. Is the orange thing at the bottom your tent? It is kind of distracting. I am loving the background views, river and sky. I think I would prefer a tighter view of the river and cliffs in lieu of the foreground detail as presented here. Processing looks terrific and the contrast flows smoothly throughout the scene.

Yeah, Michael, its a tent. Not mine though. There were lots of tents down there. I decided to leave it in for a hint of scale. I hadn't even thought of the tent when I posted this in the landscape gallery as it is so miniscule. Hope this gallery is OK.

I had to go back and look for the tent; Michael has a good eye. The patterns and layers throughout are very nice; the comp comes together well.

Nice comp with the river framed in the foreground notch. Beautiful work. :toast:

Very nice, Phillip. I've not rafted this river yet and your picture definitely makes me want to go.

That's an inspiring scene, and the clouds really do set an ominous tone. Works very well for me overall. I think I see a bit of a halo along the horizon, just above the darkest parts of the distant cliffs.

I am glad that I opened up the thumbnail. I really like this image. The drama in the sky, the colors/textures in the cliffs, and the nice curve through the scene all make this a really nice image. I have not been to this corner of my fair state and this is a good reminder of why I need to get up there!

Phillip, I like the drama in the sky and your composition with the curved river and the tangible details in the foreground. Great work and excellent processing for me.

Pretty amazing view, and it sure does look like quite a climb. Great sky and I really like the colors in the canyon.

Wow, very ominous. To heck with the rain, you're lucky a lightning bolt didn't shoot out of the sky & zap you.
