West Maui Mountains

Another image from a recent trip to Maui just as the morning light started to creep over the mountains on the west coast. I found this field while scouting the previous day and was fascinated by the large rocks and their vibrant colours. I am assuming that this is volcanic rock although correct me if I'm wrong.

Cool shot, I like the light on the mountain top! And those are certainly volcanic rocks, probably iron rich which gives them the red hue!

Beautiful rich color and very well composed. Those rocks really draw me into the image and I love the light on the hills. Great job

The placement of the boulders in the FG does a great job drawing the viewer in. Nice light and great colors.

Nice Kyle, the red rocks do make an interesting foreground and almost point to the peak. I like how the trail in the middle ground kind of lends a curve to the photo.
Good job scouting out a sunrise shot.

I love the vibrancy in the colors and the stellar sense of clarity in the scene. The light is very nicely balanced so all the elements work well together. It's interesting that the look of this feels iconic (it's so good) but that the subject matter is not iconic at all. It's really nicely done all around.

The foreground rocks are real eye catchers. Using them to point to the color matched high light on the mountain is good composition.

This is neat. You could probably get away with saying it was a few different places. as it doesn't scream out at you"Maui", or Hawaii. I think that's what i like most about it. It's different than just about anything I've ever seen, or envisioned about the islands. It's funny too, cause' I've been there, and know that it looks like this!

I was quite surprised to see that this image is from Maui. I like the composition a lot, especially the fresh green leaves against the red boulders. Everything comes together well - very nice work.

Thanks for the comments everyone, they are appreciated. Most of my photo's from Hawaii are seascapes which I enjoy but I'm glad I found this area to shoot while I was there.

Kyle, I appreciate your composition with the foreground leading aptly into the depth. You reflect the specific atmosphere well to me, I feel like standing in the middle of the scene.

Kyle,

I think this is an excellent use of the wide angle and the near/far composition. The proportions tell me you were very interested in the detail, colors and arrangement of the foreground elements. The sky, mountain and light merely balance out the scene - and quite nicely. Of course, the opposite could be true.... you loved the mountain and sky and the light hit and you scrambled for a foreground element... In the end it doesn't matter at all, you've captured a great landscape. No nits from me, color and all the technical details are excellent.
