Sleeping under the stars

I've just returned from this year's Namibia trip.

This is a shot of our room in Sossusvlei, taken right after we returned from the dunes. I had switched on all the lights inside, which explains the warm glow (the walls are made from tent material). The ambient light is from lights alongside the wooden walkway.

Single exposure, Nikon D3s, AF-S 14-24, tripod.

This is a wonderful shot Marsel. The sky looks awesome and the lighted rooms are very cool. Pretty amazing place to be sleeping under the stars. Must have been beautiful.

An amazing scene Marsel! The lead in of the walkway, the lights in the huts, and starry sky is magnificent.

The night sky is fabulous and the lighting very effective. Not sure I like the centering on the image (still thinking on that part). I do like the combination of warm/cool colors

Thanks.

Nancy - the centering of the room is the direct result of my decision to use the walkway to lead the eye into the shot. Also, with vertical compositions it is often not easy to move your main subject off-center (horizontally). Usually what I do, is to move the main subject off-center horizontally with horizontals, and vertically with verticals.

Beautiful, Marsel. I agree that off-center comps are hard to create in a vertical shot, and the walkway makes a good leading line into the image. The star just pop, without any apparent distant light pollution.
