Grizzly bear siesta

I photographed this big male grizzly in the Khutzeymateen valley, the same individual as my first grizzly post. After he followed a female for a while and fed alongside her, he decided to rest for a bit while keeping her in sight.

Thanks for viewing and I appreciate your comments.

You came away with a nice image in difficult shooting conditions largely thanks to the sharp eye. The stick than seems to emerge from the fur is a nice addition as well. While the composition seems balanced as it is, i dont think the lower left is as strong as the rest of the image. It might be fun experimenting with unconventional crops with more room towards the right or even a square crop.

I really like that pouty lip, makes the Bear appear as though he's lost an argument with his girlfriend and is now sulking off to one side ;^)

As already suggested, the highlights on the running down to the bridge of the nose are a little bright, though perhaps this could be toned down some in PP. Overall, it's a pleasing shot Darren.

Hi Darren,

Nice detail and always nice to see such a relaxed bear - but what works for me the best is how the bear appears to be looking into the distance and almost contemplating something - kind of a neat "faraway" look (looking far away or far away in thought!). I wish those 3 twigs/grasses that appear to be coming down from the top of the frame and "intersecting" with the bear (the right-most one isn't quite intersecting) weren't there - they did catch my eye a little and pulled some of my attention away from the bear. Not advocating you clone them out - you should have gone over to the bear and plucked those out (KIDDING!!!).

Very nice shot - really good to hear you had such a great time in the Khutz - your enthusiasm about your trip is not at all hidden! And, for good reason...amazing place, eh??

Cheers...looking forward to seeing more...

Nicely done Darren! Brad said it best, the bear has an almost dreamy look about him. As if he's contemplating something. I like your choice of focusing on just his head and face, very well done.
