Magic Rocks Beach

This image is from my recent trip to the Oregon coast. Although I think this beach is formally named Falcon Cove, internet references call it Magic Rocks Beach. The waves cause the rocks to crackle as they bump into one another in the surf. The sound is almost hypnotic and the massive piles of smooth stones along the beach are an interesting sight.

Thank you in advance for any comments or critiques!

5D2, 70-200 lens @ 70 mm, f/20, 0.5 sec. ISO 200. Larger version included.

EDIT - I posted a little video of the beach on my Facebook page (linked below) in case you want to hear the sound I describe above.

Lovely shot Sarah. I especially love the pastel color on the horizon - love the blurred wave action too. Pretty, pretty stuff.

Magic Rocks Beach, Falcon Cove, whatever. Both very compelling names for a wonderful location. I'm going to have to add it to my list of places to visit one day. You came away with a very fine image and it looks excellent in all respects.

Beautiful colors on the horizon. The waves look good, too.
Beautiful image.

I love the light on the rocks and the metallic sheen Sarah as well as the soft wave action. This gorgeous seascapes reminds me of St. Ann's Bay on Cape Breton NS (minus the sea stacks of course). I know that sound you describe since I have heard it in Cape Breton and mid coast Maine as well. I can imagine hearing it now as I gaze at your beautiful scene.

Beautiful contrast in textures between the waves and the beach cobbles. Sweet color on the horizon.

Sarah,

This is fantastic. I love the color throughout. The color gradation from pink to blue in the sky is especially nice, although I can't help but be drawn to the gorgeous rocky beach and all that blue. This is simply a gorgeous seascape.

This is beautiful as presented and I love it. However stepping away from this for a second .... did you do anything a little more intimate with just the stones/beach? I see an image here without any of the sky and for me anyway looks like just the beach, stones and interaction with the surf is another fantastic image waiting to be captured. Just a side thought.

Beautiful work.

Hi everyone - Thank you very much for the comments. I appreciate the feedback!

Lon - I actually spent most of my time that evening focusing on the rocks and came away with some images similar to the photo Matt Anderson posted a few days ago, but with all black rocks. The constant movement of the rocks made it hard find the right composition - every time I had something I liked, the next wave changed it (making it both fun and frustrating to photograph this little scene!). I am not quite sure if any of them are worth sharing.

Hi Sarah, I'm trying to figure out why I missed this earlier...This is beautiful, and so well done. Really nice composition and I love the soft feel of the colors and misty bg creating a wonderful mood. Your 1/2 sec shutter speed worked great with the waves. Wonderful work Sarah. Happy 4th!

The light kissing the wet rocks and stone looks terrific Sarah, the transition in colour from sky to surf and then the beach is beautiful.
