Bald Eagle
by Dennis Plank
I took a day of vacation yesterday to celebrate my birthday by doing a couple of the things I enjoy most-including some bird photography. In this case I caught the early morning low tide near Seabeck on Hood Canal. As usual, my timing was off and I could have slept another hour. However the Great Blue Herons and Eagles were plentiful, and though there was little sun it made for nice flat light which helped with the high contrast Eagles.
This is one of a series where the eagle came straight at me then flared to a landing.
1DMkIV, 500mm f4 IS, hand held, f4, 1/1600, iso 1000, Manual exposure. I departed a bit from my normal sharpening drill, because I was getting too much fringing around the dark bird with this bg. Noise reduction with Neat Image, otherwise normal processing. Cropped to 7.45MP.
I always appreciate your comments and criticisms.
Thanks for looking,

14 commentsI really like the head on flight pose and the eyes at eye level. This is one case where a little tighter crop might be even nicer.

If this were mine - and oh how I wish that it was! - I'd remove the dark OOF spots from the water in the upper part of the frame, and I'd also have a go at cloning out the one just poking up behind the Eagle's left wing.
