This was shot of a black bear cub last weekend in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I wanted to call it the "the worst shot I've Ever Taken" but that was too long. While I like it as a widlife shot, I felt guilty after taking it. I only took 5-6 shots of this guy before he started to do a distress whine. I realized that the sow and his twp siblings had made it across the main road but he had not. He was trying to get across but a mob of people prevent him from doing so. I put my camera back in the car and with the help of one other made a part int he crowd for him to scurry back to his family.

Shot with a Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 100-400mm lens at F/5.6 and at 400mm. He was so close I only trimmed the edges a bit. Not much cropping at all.

Ryan, neat shot...Maybe crop a little of the image/ At least you realized the little guy was distressed and did something about it.

This is very cute!! I feel for the little guy, sometimes we forget we are visitors to their world when entering a National Park. Good on you for making sure he got reunited with his family.

The high point of view helps to add to the feeling he is alone, small and helpless perched on his little rocky island. Maybe a little more sharpening on the body? I'm glad you responded to the situation that developed. Folks can get pretty carried away when bears are involved.
