This is an interesting plant from one of my garden ponds. The end of a stem got eaten off and all these little sproutsw shot up.
Its called Dutch Rush (Equisetum hyemale)- one of the Horsetails.
The brittle stems were used for scouring pots and pans and polishing in days past.

I've enjoyed Horsetails since I was a kid and we took them apart and tried to put the pieces back together. This is a beautiful image with the light bringing out the details in the stems against the black background.

We have lots of horse tails here too but they are busy with the flies this time of the year.

I have never seen these. Cool image, looks a bit like a xylophone.

Well John, I'll give you fabulous marks for the image. However, I must tell you these horsetails are invasive in my garden and I do everything possible to get rid of them. Not very successfully I might add. They are a curse. I wish they would stay across the pond

John:
Nice image. Very interesting to see stems sprout upwards from the main curving branch.

I was just planning to post a horsetail I shot this week. Great minds must truly work alike. (smile) Beautiful light on the stalks and the colors are stellar. Details are great as the textures are perfect. Nicely done.
