Thirsty Work

Gallery: Regional: UKNPPosted July 11, 2011215 views18 comments
A thirsty Black Ant - Lasius niger (the common garden ant, 3-5mm in length) on top of a Foxglove flower. I noticed these ants patrolling up and down the tall foxglove stems and around each flower and thought the bright colour would make a striking backdrop.

Canon MP-E 65mm lens, f10, 1/160, ISO 100, diffused MT-24 flashgun, handheld. Taken at between 3x and 4x lifesize. Full frame.

Best viewed large.

All C+C welcomed.

I think MG has nailed the critique on this one; and I couldn't agree more. A very special image, beautifully executed.

Top shot, Matt :toast:
