Thank you for your comments on my previous posting! I was perusing some archive folders for possible deletions when I discovered this image from 2006. It looked pretty good, so I decided to work it up.
I wondered why I had not not worked on this one before? Have tastes changed over the years? Are there elements of the image that were not really seen, initially? Or, is it a combination of factors, including skill with processing? Have you had similar experiences?
When I arrived at Big Pine Creek just after an early fall snow had melted, everything was very wet, and the color was intense, even under a heavy cloud cover.

16 commentsCan't say I've had many similar experiences, but it's mostly due to lack of time. Seems like archive images surface frequently enough here that I plan on holding on to my older images until I have a chance to look them over again.
I have been looking through many older images lately too. Ones I didn't hardly look twice at are now ones I think are quite nice. A good thing saving them for awhile I think, at least the ones you can't decide on for sure.

Great rescue from the files.
Very nice.

Marc nailed it for me and we chatted about this offline - This scene really brings me there in terms of imagining the sights, sounds and especially the smells of a scene like this after a rain or wet snow. I can see the wetness and can imagine just pulling in all the senses here. All the technicals look good (color, contrast, sat, etc.) and I really like the comp and how the stream just pulls the viewer in to this little Sierra autumn scene. Nice little treasure you found in the archives.
