I like this antelope with a strange name, deriving not from the shape of its horns as some suggest but from the Dutch word for Deer "hert".

Taken in Kgakagadi Transfrontier Park,16th June 2011

EOS 1D MkIII

70-200mm F2.8 series 2 at 100mm

F5, ISO 400, 1/5000

I love the active posture, creating the strong diagonal. My only wish would be for you to have been given a more interesting, textured sky. Great job exposing the hartebeest.

Superb timing ! I like how those trees are lined up on the right. Love that dynamic pose from the beast :toast:

Nicely done Ken! I love the dramatic action and pose of this most unusual looking antelope. No nits from me. :toast:

Thanks for your comments they are most encouraging.
Lon,
I agree that the sky did me no favours in this one, the trees also proved to be a problem as in most of the series they were preventing a clear shot, hopefully I will get further chances.

Love the movement of the antelope and the very pleasing composition with the trees on the side in the background. Nice work.

Nice clean Kalahari image Ken...looks to be north of Nossob, Grootkolk/Gharagab area? Clear skies are typical of the area in the time you went so not a nit for me

Nice timing of the take-off Ken. I like the fact that the Hartebeest is positioned between the trees in the BG. Good exposer and the image is nice and sharp.

Ken, this clearly shows the power of the second fastest antelope in southern Africa well. I like it even with the pale sky and the harsh light due to the wonderful pose and good isolation of the animal, but do wish the entire tree on the right were included.

Vincent,

I have just checked the raw and it is not there, but I see what you mean.
