Viper's Bugloss & Friend
by Tom Lusk
I've always thought Viper's Bugloss is such an interesting name for a plant. In this shot a Hummingbird Hawk Moth is approaching to get some nectar from one of the flowers. These little moths are a pleasure to watch and photograph.
Nikon D300; 300mm; f 6.3@ 1/800th; ISO 500; approx.50% crop; HH.
The background is some very dry grass.
All comments and suggestions most welcome. Thanks for looking!

Congrat on this very beautiful image. I have seen these a few times in the local gardens but have not been able to get a good capture so far. The combination of the flowers, bg and yellow (I am glad you explained about the dried grass) bg just gel together beautifully.
Love that flower and the details you've shown us, it really helps the hummingbird moth shine here Tom.
Well done!
Very fine image!

Paul: I believe you are correct with the ID. I've done a lot more research on the various hummingbird moth species over the past couple of days. Thanks.
