Loonar lift-off

This summer has been a good one for transient loons on our pond. We have had as many as four at a time. Since the pond is small, the loons have to circle several times to get enough altitude to take off and I was able to catch this fellow.

Techs:

Nikon D300, 80-400 VR @400 mm, 1/1000s @ f/6.3, -1 EV, ISO 640, 40% of ff, hand-held, resting on deck railing.

Neat flight image, despite the pun, Rita. At this scale, the detail looks reasonably good and I like the wing position.

How nice to have your very own loony bin  . There is a quiet and peaceful look to this image and I like the placement in the frame. I wish I could see a bit more detail. You might post the optional larger version for us to have a better look.

Good job of getting the red eye to show. I agree that posting a larger version would help critique sharpness. I like the bend of the wing tips.

Thanks for the kind comments, folks. I hesitated to include the larger version because of the large crop, but here it is.
