Blue wizard making offering of flowers and chanting to appease the Ents of Middle Earth for one of their fallen brother....

My imagination running wild. Taken at Isabella plantation, Richmond Park. Saw these two trees without leaves with very interesting shapes. I was waited for about 20 minutes for the man to leave but he just sat there and read his book and was not going anywhere fast so I decided to include him in the composition. Earlier we saw him in plucking azaleas in the gardens which he has placed on the tree stump.

Please see larger version for details. The compression of 50% is really affecting the small image

Very pretty scene, Gary. I wish I were the one sitting there and reading the book. Great colors and in my opinion, without that person the photo would be a bit bland.

Great work :toast:

The two trees have great form and character, and the image overall is very pretty with the beautiful greens, orange azaleas, and blue flowers. I also like the figure in the image. It adds to the mood. I just wish there was less open sky but what can you do? You had to include the sky to get the nice branch forms. Even with the open sky, this is excellent because of all the nice elements.

I agree with the prior Comments. At first I thought the man detracted but as I looked at the image I realized that he gave scale and meaning. Great shot!

I really like the richness of color, and the shape of the bare tree. I also like your imagination. Maybe clone out the book from his hand, his posture is perfect and serene which fits the scene.

The comp and color are very nice. Should this be in Man and Nature Gallery.

It looks kinda like the one tree may not like the offering and is opening its gaping maw to bend over and swallow him. Hope Tom Bombadil is around to rescue him. Well done.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Paul:
Your imagination is as wild as mine. That was the exact same thought that cross my mind when I saw this scene. LOL.

Very pretty scene, but the greens seem over-saturated and un-believable here. Maybe just MY monitor?

Sandy:
Yes, leaves look unbelievable in Middle Earth
Joking aside, I have applied Velvia film effect using Channel mixer so the green and red looks saturated.

That tree definitely looks Entish to me.

I like the image as posted. For me, the sky in this is a little distracting. I think I'd actually prefer the image cropped down from the top to the start of the sky. Even without eye contact it's the critter that draws my attention and where my eye comes to rest. It's probably just me though. It's a very interesting image.

Gary i m a diehard fan of LOTR (it's the only fiction book i've ever read)
this indeed reminds me of Lothlorien & the big mallorn trees, i wish i was sitting there & waiting for Lady Galadriel to come an sing a song to me in old elvish

Very interesting Gary. I like the light and the individual really adds to the overall effect. In a perfect world I would take the chainsaw to the straight vertical tree behind the man and make some firewood with it!

Beautiful! I cant find the right words for expressing my feelings in front of this image that warms my emotion: the colors, the saturation, the relation between the man in front of the figure of the living tree, something mysterious? One thing I surely know: I love this photo.
Take care.

Gary: Aptly titled and nicely captured. I like the scene and think the muser is a major plus element, especially where he is in the frame and relative to the trees. I might be tempted to crop this from the top to 6:7 ratio. The leafy areas above the snags don't add much interest and I'd like to see them go away. >=))>

That's certainly the most entish looking tree I've seen in awhile. The colors are brilliant and the scene is very appealling.

I like this, Gary. As I veiw this, I think of the concepts of tranquility
and serenity. The presence of the man is a nice touch in my opinion.
Great colors.

Also, thank you for your recent comment on my Dahilas posting.

Thanks for your comments:

Scott, Pat, Bill:
I struggled with the open sky in this image but I also like to show the imposing height of the tree compared with the man. The sky was very bright in the unprocessed original and I have darkened it considerably. I tried cropping down to the start of the sky but it did not convey the mood of the imposing and threatening Ent. So this is a compromised crop.

Krunal:
You are a real romantic!

Bob:
No need for chainsaw - it will aggravate the already enraged Ents even more and I doubt Tom Bombadil will be able to save him. Just the content aware, clone stamp and patient (which do not have) would do.

Hi Gary :wavey: The complex geometric forms of the branches is amazing, or is this the antenna of a giant UFO waiting to eat up the man praying for mercy? or is he giving directions to some lost ents trying to return to Oregon :jump: Seriously, great imaginative composition, like it better with the crop

Hard to call Gary. I like the repost but you're right about losing the height.

I like the Ent idea but this could also be Bilbo left behind at the house of Elrond, after the fellowship has departed. Lots of Tolkien stuff suggested here. Beautiful image.

The shapes of the trees, the lighting, and the blossoms are great and the man reading takes this to another level.

Good call on including the person Gary, it makes it work very well IMO.
You've made that important connection with the viewer, they can see themselves stepping into the frame.
Well done! :toast:

Interesting shapes and wonderful deep colors really bring this image to life. The person adds a sense of tranquility for me and invites me into the image, well done.
