This picture of the Red-throated diver, Gavia Stellata, is from a little small forest lake in western Sweden. It is taken from a transportable hide.

Beautiful bird, and well shot. Although I'd like to see it fill more of the frame and perhaps lower so that there'd be more space above the upturned head.

Welcome to NPN, Lennart. I love the colors of the water! I agree about taking some off the bottom for composition. the bright edge to the back of the neck is a little odd to my eye--I assume it's a natural result of backlight, but if sharpening has enhanced it, I would mask that out so it doesn't catch the eye so much. Look forward to seeing more of your work!

Real nice shot. Love the color of the water as it helps bring out the subject. The white rim on the back of the head is a tad distracting but not to much. Other than well done.

I think the neck effect is a combination of backlight and the fact that the neck itself has light stripes. But that does not change the negative influence.

Beautiful bird in a nice stting. I would like to see the water without the long reflections of something. Perhaps a different angle or position?

Hi Lennart,
Welcome to NPN's Avian Critique Gallery.
I love the beautiful colors of the water, your low angle and the pose of the diver. Good work getting light in that dark eye. I like the size of the bird in the frame because the water feels as much a part of this image as the bird is.
I look forward to seeing more of your work in Avian.
