This bird is in non-breeding plumage and was one of about 10 that ware patrolling along the edge of an ephemeral lake.
Pity about the bird in the background. I'll have a play with it one day.

ISO 800 f7.1 1/500 exp comp -1/3 a lot of glare

cheers
Rob

Rob, I really like the light on the grebe. The exposure is wonderful and the action is a big plus for me. The lighting coming through the wings and the sharp focus drew my attention to the grebe. I really did not notice the background bird until I read your narrative.

The exposure and pose is great, shame about the bird in the BG but can't be helped!

Wonderful pose. Very nice detail in the bird. I don't find the background bird distracting, but you could try delete/content aware in photoshop.

Lovely light on this grebe - one I've never heard of.
Perfect gray BG to compliment the grays in the bird. I don't mind the oof bird in the BG - but agree healing/cloning it out would make this even better.

Very cool Rob, I really like how the light comes through the wings. Excellent feather detail on the larger version and the low angle really adds to the scene. I did not even notice the background bird until I read your comment, so no big deal for me. IQ and composition on this is outstanding, well done.

I don't mind the bird in the background Rob it really isn't obtrusive. Beautiful soft colors, wing position, angle, and the light is super. Love how it illuminated the wings. Wonderful details & sharpness.

Great pose and muted palette, Rob. The bg bird doesn't bother me-it's sufficiently oof to not be obtrusive.

I like the raised-wing pose and translucent flight feathers.
