Common Rose

Went to the butterfly reserve (Fung Yuen) today for the first time this year. From talking to the regular visitors, the BF numbers appear to be down this year. However, I managed to capture 2 new (for me) species so the trip was worthwhile. This is one of them, a male common rose (Pachliopta aristolochiae), a large swallow tail with characteristic pink/rose body.

Fascinating colors, Gary. Don't believe I've seen anything like that pink in a BF here.

Good work Gary, I like it. Very beautiful species, I especially like the red running through it.
I tried the Cockrell Butterfly Center here in Houston years ago, and vowed I would never waste my time again in a B-fly house. The shooting conditions were horrendous, and I came away very frustrated with the whole experience..

Gary, lovely colors & superb detail on the body and darker wings. For me the only negative is the upper wings out of focus, but it would have probably been impossible to get them and also to keep the BG out of focus.

That is one spectacular butterfly! I like the pose and the background, but would like to see hints of details in the dark areas of the wing and body.
