Canon EOS 7D, EF 500mm f/4L IS USM, Aperture Priority @ f/5.6 (1/800 sec), -1 EV, ISO 640, Tripod, JPEG from RAW, Cropped about 40% from Full Frame

Subject: Grey-Eyed Bulbul

Location: Kaeng Krachan National Park, Phetchaburi, Thailand

Although my daughter is still on her school summer holidays (the main reason why I decided to stop posting anything for a while), we're currently back home having enjoyed some quality family time together traveling around and visiting a few different locations here in Thailand, and seeing as I have about nine days or so before I head off on my African adventure I thought I'd post up a few more photos before I fly.

Despite this not being the optimum time of year for bird sighting over here, there are still wonderful subjects to be found, so on the occasions I did have by myself during our travels I managed to capture a number of shots that are appealing to me.

During our visit to Kaeng Krachan I saw a number of different species for the first time, this Grey-Eyed Bulbul being one of those. It's not the most striking species by way of colour, but the lighting I caught on this one and particularly it's pose make me smile every time I look at it, so I thought it would be a nice one to share with you!

Critique and comments always welcome :^)

Indeed it is good to see your name and quality on a post. With all the busy surroundings this bird does stand out, I expect because of lots of patience waiting for the best position. A fun pose it gave you.

Good light and detail where it needs to be. The look and pose really draws me into the image. I might have experimented with a vertical crop with that background but a really nice job in getting this and seeing this. Good title as well, way to go, well done.

(I also like your website, some amazing and colorful birds! ) :toast:

Wonderful pose and lighting, Ashley. The bg is a bit busy, but the contrast with the bird's paler coloration still makes it work.

What a nice way to render this otherwise not so flashy bird. Beautiful light and pose. Amazing how you managed to make it stand out in such a busy environment.

I really like the spotlighting effect on the head and shoulders. It really separates the bird from the darker surroundings. To me that is what makes the picture work. The pose is great also. Very nicely done.
