At a parking lot in Calgary's suburbs, this Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis) stared at me, seemingly confirming this blacktop as being its turf and me as the tolerated visitor.

Interesting image. I think this needs to be a vertical as the negative space on the left and right don't add to the overall image.

I like the light, the pose of the gull and the deep blue of the water. I think that is you left this as a horizontal but trimmed some of the right side of the frame to move the bird more off center and leaving a tad more space above the head you could have a powerful composition.
