Not sure whether the green woodpeckers that come to my feeder fledged two or three chicks. Last week, two juveniles in company with the female, flew into a window in the country park neighbouring the area where my hide is sited, resulting in the death of one of the youngsters. This juvenile has been coming with the male who is a more regular visitor to the feeders than is the adult female. At this time of year, she seems to prefer to feed on the ground, although I starting to think that the birch trunck that I'm using as a feeder may be too smooth for them to comfortably perch on.
