Great habitat here!
Good pose and comp, and nice detail in the moose.
Curious about your high iso, slow SS, and aperture - intentional? was it dark?

Nice shot, John! Good grief...what a setting! It's like this cow hired you to do a portrait session of her and you talked about what would be an ideal location, went out and set up the shot, and nailed it. ;)
I will say I'm undecided on the mouth being open, and her turn, combined with her slight lean(?) seems JUST a little extreme. But I'm just stretching for nits here...this is a great moose shot that I would be delighted to have in my files!

I agree with the previous comments, wonderful setting. I also wonder about the high iso and if the photo could have been rendered darker as you were into the evening hours. I like the forward facing ears, but like John I'm a bit on the fence about the open mouth as the mandible merges with the hind end.

Great photo! The cow is posing well and I like the habitat. The cow has good details but maybe I would like the habitat a little darker.

Like the surrounding vegetation. Really has a alert look as well.

Nice image with a lovely facial expression John. This came out sharp enough despite your slow SS and high ISO. I would only suggest to darken the greens a little.

Lovely photo. Slick coat on the moose and they always look better with a bit of environment included. Nicely done.

I don't think I've ever seen a moose in a pretty field of flowers. It makes for a beautiful setting for this animal. I would agree that maybe the greens could be darkened a bit. I like the turn of the head and the catchlight in the eye.

Hey John
I like the pose here quite a lot, and good job getting some of that purple colouration from the flowers to add to the overall feel.
Good use of high ISO and slow SS - agree with Vincent on darkening the greens a tad.

Hi John,
I like the pose of the moose and how something (other than you) has captured its attention. I have to admit that when I looked at your tech specs I thought "it must have been almost dark" - so I wonder if the image is significantly brighter than the scene at time of capture (not that that's a problem, just an observation). When I look at the larger version the image - especially in the snout region - does look a little on the soft side. While I realize it would have been possible to stop down further and widen your depth-of-field, I do find the out-of-focus purple flowers in the foreground a little distracting (not a lot, but to me they add to a bit of a "patchy" appearance to the image).
Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Thanks for all the feedback everyone... the sun was down behind the mountains, but had not yet set, so there was light, but it was fading fast. I hadn't played with iso3200 on the 1DIV, so this was a good opportunity. I metered at the iso setting and this was the end result. I was pleasantly surprised with the manageable noise (I probably could do more with it - all noise reduction was with LR3). I was lucky that this cow was so still as well. I'm going to look at darkening the greens some as suggested.
Thanks again.
