Blue Dasher

I wouldn't have known the species if I hadn't looked at Roger's recent shot.

This fellow was perched in a small patch of sun on a willow leaf above the water. BG is shaded water.

Nikon D300; f9 @ 1/500th; ISO 400. HH, lying on dock. Approx. 50%FF.

All comments and suggestions most welcome.

Nice detail here, Tom. It's difficult to capture both the striped body color & the bright blue tail perfectly. I see that you're also from Ontario. An excellent ID website is www.pursuitofpixels.com/dragonflies of ontario/links.html.

Thanks for the link, Roger. It was close, but ended up being: http://pursuitofpixels.com/Dragonflies%20of%20Ontario/index.html

An interesting site with some good info.

And thanks for the kind comment, Ingrid.

Tom:
Interesting pose and POV. I like how the DF is parallel to the leaf. Nice bg too.

Great detail on body of this DF and I like his pose. Nice comp and colors. It seems a little dark to me; almost hard to see the wings. Could it have been lightened slightly without changing BG coloring?
