A Flower by the Lake

Since my wife decided to join me on my hiking adventures I seem to only be getting out during mid-day. I miss getting up before dawn. This is Drum Lake below July Mtn and I just couldn't resist taking some comps of this area. We didn't stay long because the mosquitoes surrounded us in dense clouds. We couldn't break free from them until we were back at the truck.

Beautiful contrast and color in this image, Dean. I love the rocks beneath the water and the patchwork effect of the snow and rock. I'm in two minds about the grassy fg, and thought a square crop of the top section would be a nice option as well. Lovey shot.

Wonderfully composed image. The clouds and sky is the only weak point in my opinion.

I enjoy the drama and strong colors of mid-day lighting. I especially like the view into the water of the rocks. I also have mixed feelings about the flower and shoreline in the foreground. The flower is a nice addition, but I feel like it's competing with the lake and the mountain for my attention.

A beautiful scene. Pretty harsh light, and I wonder, of course, what it would have looked like at dawn?

Nicely composed. The reflection and the mountains are wonderful. Light is a bit harsh but not overly so. I would back off on the blue saturation as the sky appears just slightly over-polarized. Great job for midday shooting! :toast:

Beautiful scene here, Dean. It must have been a fantastic experience standing on the shore of the lake here taking it all in. You did a great job of handling the contrast in the scene. I also like the balance of the reflection on the lake and the foreground rocks.

Very nice alpine scene and I like how the submerged rocks merge into the reflection. Looks like a great place to spend the day (but without the mosquitoes).

This is a very nice image. You're lucky to have a wife that wants to go along, and it would be best to let her know how much you appreciate her company.
