Water lilly Ndoki

The small forest streams in Ndoki National Park in P.R.Congo are full with flowers and animals. The water has a reddish / brown coloration and has a considerable current.

Peddling through, it feels like entering the guts of the forest, with all the dense vegetation around.

Crocs, mainly small snout and leeches are all over. In fact, when photographing this water lilly several leeches where sucking fresh human blood (the pygmy guide in the dug-out canoe though I was completely insane going into the water).

Due to the reflection of the water it seems that there are two lilies.

Shot on slide a while ago.

Jeffry: Welcome to the finest Flora gallery on the planet and thanks for an intriguing first post here. Unique POV (from under the water?). Not sure I don't agree with your guide but its obvious you will put a lot of effort into your imaging. Great to have you aboard and looking forward to more. >=))>

Very interesting image. Sounds like a terrific adventure. If that red/brown water is anything like the Everglades, it's made that color from tannin in rotting leaves.

Welcome to the gallery Jeffry. This image fascinates me. It's the light and the water combined I think. A very striking first post for my tastes.
