Short-billed Dowitcher

A Short-billed Dowitcher, taken 2 minutes after the Little Blue Heron I posted two days ago, again, about 30 minutes after sunrise. This one was definitely taken lying on the sand using the skimmer groundpod--not sure now if I was on the monopod or the skimmer for the LBHE. Tigertail Beach, Marco Island, FL. I did a very small clone to remove the wingtips of another bird from the right edge.

I appreciate your critiques and comments. Please view the larger version if possible.

Canon 7D, 500mm + 1.4x TC, groundpod

1/1000, f/7.1, ISO 640

Crop to 69% (12.5 of 18MP)

Hello Brian,
Really good shot. Especially like the low angel, the wing action and the reflection.

Gorgeous mornin' light with a wonderful pose. There is a tiny spot on the water if you follow the length of the bill down...it may be in the water, but it looks like it could be a dust spot. A very minor nit...overall it's a wonderful image. Nice job on the cloning, too. Sharon

The large version especially is quite outstanding, Brian. In addition to the very attractive early morning light and slightly different pose for this bird, the bg is particularly suited here. The absence of distractions and pleasing way that the blue foreground water appears in focus fits the bird image so well.

Very nice, Brian. Low angle, early light, some action, wet bill, all add up to a wonderful shot.
