Purple Dusk

Recently went to Goa, India for a vacation. This was taken after sunset when the clouds were just approaching. The sky had turned magenta and the long exposure increased the feel.

Please let me know if it works for you.

Do see the bigger size to better view it.

f16/30sec on a Canon 7D at 21mm with CPL.

I love everything about this except the green grass on the left. When I cover that part with my hand the shot suddenly comes to life. I'm wondering if a BW conversion would eliminate what is, in my opinion, a distracting change in color?

I like the idea of a b&w conversion for the same reason Joel suggested. If you really want to keep the magenta cast, maybe selectively desaturating the green would help keep it from being such a distraction. I do love the glow on the rocks.

I'll offer a contrary opinion. I find the green to be a relief from the overbearing magenta cast. If some other colors were unlocked from the magenta (more purple, maybe light gray-blues) the green could be more at ease. It might still require some desaturation though.

I'm in agreement with Kent . . . I like the green and tend to think in any event that this scene doesn't quite have the range of tonalities that would translate well to B&W. The composition also works well and while the magenta is strong, it is not objectionable to me.

It looks magenta, but it also looks real. Increasing green saturation might increase the appeal of this contrasting element.
