This is a detail from a large open pit copper mine from my country Romania. The mine is located in the Apuseni Mountains, which are a very beautiful mountains, not very high in altitude, hilly looking like. Also this mountains have a lot of small villages with some interesting livestock shelters with a unique appearance, on the hills.
Better details on the mine should be found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ro%C5%9Fia_Poieni_copper_mine

I shot this image in the twilight light before the sunrise, I also enhanced the contrast with a S-curve and increased the saturation in order to enhance the light at that moment. The white balanced is set so it doesn't neutralize the blue light.
The image could be appealing, but when you see the whole site how it intrudes in the natural landscape, it makes you very sad to see how the people are intervening in the nature.

A beautifully composed image Serban ..and you maintaining the water within the bottom third works very well here. Looks like this place can offer more under different lighting conditions ..well done .

Thank you, Balan. One correction, that one is not water, it is the fog from the valey.

A beautiful image, but a very sad story behind it.

A striking image without the manipulation, but your work certainly adds to the impact. I'm too acquainted with derelict open-pit copper mines, but more from the perspective of the highly poisonous water that accumulates in them. It's often brightly colored and strongly attractive to migratory waterfowl.... And quickly fatal. This is a new "take" for me, but it enhances the insights.

A wonderful abstract and colorful image that has an appealing mysterious character about it. Congratulations on the EP for a fine image.

Glad you left out the broader context in the scene. It would have been very sad, as you say.

Beyond the documentary side of the photo and the sad story behind it, I really appreciate its abstract quality and the moody atmosphere presented. A wonderful shot, Serban! Congrats on a well deserved weekly pic!

This is nice, Serban. The textures created by the light make for a nice abstract.
