Waterfall Abstract

Hi everyone. I created this photo during a recent trip to Ricketts Glen State Park in PA. Two things I liked about the scene - 1) how dark the rocks behind the falls were; I used a polarizer to enhance that effect, 2) the many small cascades of water that this section of the waterfall contained.

I used my Canon 7D with a 17-55mm lens set at 55mm and a polarizing filter on a tripod. Exposure was 1/2 second at f/8. I enhanced the contrast and sharpened the image in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop CS5.

I considered posting this in the landscape forum, since it didn't require any extensive manipulation, but my intent was for this to be more of an abstract image. I think it looks sort of like a scratchboard piece of art.

I'm interested in receiving any feedback, either positive or negative. Thanks!

There have been abstracts more abstract than this in the Landscape gallery. However, it is a good work either way. I like the "flowing sand" water and the tiers of rock. I like that the photo keeps the main flow out of the center. Good comp and technique!

I like it. The soft look and B&W look works well together.
