Tricolored Heron

This Tricolored Heron is from Tigertail Beach, Marco Island, FL. While there's a lot I like about it, I haven't posted it until now because it bothers me that I don't have a little more room at the bottom--even though you can't see the foot, it's definitely cut off--does it detract for you?

I appreciate your critiques and comments. Please view the larger version if possible.

Canon 7D, 500mm + 1.4x TC, tripod

f/8, 1/2000, ISO 640

Crop to 74% (13.3 of 18MP). NR on bg.

Hello Brian
It is an extraordinary photo as it is but I also think about more room at the bottom. Im not sure.
Good details.

I really like this, the detail is superb, - and it's a terrific pose. The water is lovely - and no - the "cut off" doesn't bother me, probably would not have noticed. As a composition - it just works for me. :toast:

Lovely light and detail. And I like the lifted foot. I've been rapped on the nose so many times myself for losing the virtual foot that now it bothers me, too.

Brian, even though a little more space at the bottom might have improved the image. I like it as it is.
The fixed eye of the heron is beautiful
The lifted foot is a great bonus.
Thx for sharing

I have a reputation for disliking reflections most of the time for a variety of reasons which I have explained befor. Especially as most of my stuff is pool photoraphy.
This one doesn,t bother me though. If it had been a full reflection cut in half- different story.

I like the pose with the 'S' shape neck and the raised leg and partial reflection so the composition looks fine for me, nice detail on the larger version, way to go.

Well taken and composed Brian. The larger version is a "must see" for viewers, outstanding detail and overall very artistic. Frame this really LARGE!

Beautiful light and excellent detail and nice low perspective. The background shows off the bird beautifully. Nice to capture the raised foot. Outstanding image.

Super sharp and detailed! The low angle combined with a great background make this shot great! :toast:

Didn't realize the foot was cut off, still it doesn't bother me. I like the raised leg and the pose is excellent.

I love these birds Brian, and this is a great shot with great light. The food up really adds as does the nice uncluttered BG. There may be a bit of a halo around neck area, but that can be attended to if desired.

Exceptional detail and very nice lighting Brian. It's being picky on a wonderful image but this is one where you can't win for losing IMO. I do slightly miss the room for the virtual lower leg and foot but if you had a little more room down there some would want more for the rest of the reflection. I think this is a fine image as presented.
