(Panicum capillare) This grass does things with light no other plant does. I don't know if I will ever capture the essence of it but this is an attempt. Suggestions/critiques are welcome. Thanks for looking

Interesting image and, yes, looks like a challenging subject to photograph. I'd say this is a good attempt. I think I'd clone or crop the stem on the right side running out of the frame. In fact, I might tighten the whole comp by cropping some off the right as well as the top.

"Capture the essence" of grasses -- something that is so appealing to try to do. I just looked at Google images of this plant, and I think you must feel a very clear essence of this grass and have done a really good job of capturing that essence.

Nancy, This is a difficult thing to pull off. I like the ramdom-ness of the grass seeds (for lack of a better word) throughout the frame. I might also consider a crop from the right to remove that strand.

Tough subject Nancy. I think you've done a good job on it here. I do agree with cropping suggestion from the top and right. I think If I were trying to shoot this that ideally I'd try to get a composition that gives you a sort of Jackson Pollock look. I don't know that I could do that but it's the comp I'd be trying to do. I have had a little bit of luck with tree leaves and that approach. The problem with this subject is that I don't know if there are enough stems to provide a skeleton for your comp. It looks like there might be. I like this and I hope you'll do another.

Have you tried stopping down to the smallest aperture? This looks like the depth is rather wide and the blurred features are conflicting with sharp ones to cause confusion of small features. I hope you will keep working on this grass. It looks very interesting.

Nancy: From the thumbnail I thought this might be a swarm of gnats . If I was going to crop I think I would do it more from the top so that the frame was almost completely filled with the gnats. >=))>

Hi Nancy :wavey: I think you captured the sparkling light offf the grasses very well, the detail has a abstract look about it and i love the movement of the grass'
