The sun was on the wrong side so no nice yellow eye. I also shot this with a 100-400l lens with a 2x converter so it may be a little soft. I sharpened it as much as I could with out going over? I hope.

Very colorful setting, I really like the pink reflections in the water. The bird does look a bit soft I agree. I wonder how this would look underexposed to render the bird as a silhouette, just an alternate thought. Any chance this might be a Great Blue Heron?

The bird is soft, I'm afraid. I've found it difficult to get really sharp images with a teleconverter, esp. a 2.0 teleconverter, on a telephoto zoom lens.

To me the softness and the reflected pinks suggest trying some art filters to give the whole photo that painterly feel.

Todd, this is a great blue heron. Just FYI. I like the overall comp, but it is tough to judge overall sharpness on the bird with the bird being small in the frame and the image being 720px. Posting 1200px versions really helps in this regard.

Ah Great Blue Heron. I should of guess that. The reason I didn't is because I seen two Great Egret's around this one and it looked very similar but the feathers seemed very rough. I thought blue Heron's were better looking. So I guess this lens combo really doesn't work. Which kinda sticks really because the next step is a 500 or 600L lens or 5 to 10 thousand dollars. kinda of pricey unless im making money at this.
