Quiet Summer Evening

Wildflowers and sunset light, Heart Lake Basin, Yellowstone NP. My wife and I spent 4 days backpacking in the Heart Lake Basin last week. The wildflowers were absolutely going off while we were there! This is one of my favorite images from the trip. When I processed this image, my goal was to convey the sense of solitude, relaxation and peacefulness we experienced there.

Nikon D7000, 12-24 Nikkor Dx, polarizer
3 exposure hand blend for dynamic range and DOF. 0.4, 2, 4 sec at f/16, ISO 100. Luckily there as no wind and I could use ISO 100 for all the exposures.

All C&C are always appreciated. Please view the larger version.

Nice to see a shot with somewhat cooler tones for a change. I enjoy this image from the foreground to the hills in the back.

I agree with Andreas about liking one with such nice cool colors. The white wildflowers are a pleasant change from the great mix of colors we have seen recently. A respite, you might say. So, your purpose worked to convey peace, and relaxation, for me anyway.

Nice image. Too bad the background isn't as fantastic as the foreground.

This image is great from the foreground to the distant mountain range and the sky. Great composition and the processing looks good too

This is a very pleasant image. It has good depth. It also has that feeling of wilderness.

Scott,

Great job of conveying your goal and feelings about the place and experience. Even though I wasn't there of course, your description shines through with this image. I can just imagine standing there for a long time, absorbing the scents of the flowers and greenness while taking in the changing colors and light as the sun sets.

The only suggestion I have would be with the blend - giving the sky a tiny bit more brightness to balance out what one would expect during that time of day (or conversely darkening the flowers, but I don't want to see that.) Hope that makes sense.

Scott, I really like the gorgeous flower show and the overall cool tone. Your choice of FG is perfect. The ULC seems to have some vignetting.

Lovely blooms. Maybe would like a bit more density in the blue sky, but this translucency is accurate for a brief time after the sunset (or rises).

A beautiful shot, Scott. Great job with the very natural looking blend. The color combo of green and purple/red is very appealing. The fg flowers are very well captured (thank the gods for no wind!). I find the log at the center left pulls my eye away from the scene a little, which I really don't want to do! A lovely and calming scene.

Superb.....definitely conveys a sense of serenity. The sunset seems to be drifting away......giving in to the night leaving the landscape in a peaceful calm. I think you nailed it. The flowers are beautiful repeating shapes leading into the scene.....beautifully done. Congrats.
