Taken this afternoon while fishing on the St. Lawrence River. I actually managed to catch larger bass than this tern.
Nikon D300; Sigma 500/4.5; f 7.1 @1/2500th; ISO 400; HH from boat; approx. 50% FF.
All comments and suggestions most welcome.

Glad your Bass were bigger, otherwise I would be concerned with your Bass fishing skills Nice job on this flight shot and the meal is always a bonus.

A hard to catch image. Nice comp and good view of the fish. I see several changes that could make this a first rate image. It needs some color correction, as there is a purple cast to it-in the sky, but extending to the bird. It appears a little over sharpened to me. I'd also do a little noise reduction on the background, but that might not be there once the sharpening is reduced..

Thanks for the comments!
Kurt - I actually made my living bass fishing for several years back in the 90's. I wouldn't want to try it now, though.
Angela - All your suggestions are spot on. I processed the photo with bright sunlight streaming into my office and that's something that always throws me off. I've re-done it in the nice gloom of the impending hurricane, and it looks a lot better (to me). Thanks.

Nice catch Tom. I do think the repost is better.

Tom,
Repost is much better. Angela nailed this critique.
Fishing pole in one hand, camera in the other at the ready. Looks like you caught the bird and the fish in one go round Tom. Good decision on the change of vocations. That would be a tough living nowadays. Must have been fun though.

A nice shot Tom. I like th position of the bird and the fish. I agree with Angela. Your repost looks much better. I still see a bit of a halo around the bird, but not nearly as bad as in the original post.

Tom, I like both your original & the re-post. Terns are tough to shoot because of their color - hard to get white feather detail & you have done it.
