Saw the thumbnail and knew this was yours... Love the fish and the composition with the coral in the BG at an optimal distance

Nice shot, especially considering the lens you had on the camera. Turtles are awfully big for a 105 underwater but underwater you only have the lens you started the dive with. If I were shooting turtles as the focus of the dive I'd want a wider lens to get closer. Figure you have to have been at least 10-12 feet and that's sucking up a lot of light, especially the warmer colors.

I don't know "didly-squat" about under-water shots Charlie, but love this one! I had the opportunity to swim with a group of these off the coast of Lanai several years back and will never forget that day...this reminds me of it!

Hi Folks,
Thanks for the comments! Verdon, I'm using an Ikelite housing for the D700. You will also need the port for whichever lens you are using. A lot of the time I shoot without any flash if the water is shallow and clear. I like using the 105mm as it lets me get shots of anything from the size of a human (or a turtle) down to the smallest critter. I also dive with the Nikon 17-55mm lens, but that pretty much eliminates any macro shooting. I will be upgrading my housing soon to the Sea & Sea housing. :wavey:

Hey Charlie,

Looks like you're still having some fun with the underwater shooting - good on ya'. Love the "ears" on this turtle...definitely made me look twice to figure out what was going on. Very nice detail on the larger version...I'm no expert at all on underwater shooting but the techs on this one look good to me.

Cheers...thanks for sharing this one...
