Evening Bald Eagle

Driving through the Turner Valley, the road divides the farm fields from the start of the Foothills which reach up to the Kananaskis range of the Canadian Rockies south of Calgary in Alberta. In the evening, all manner of raptors circle above the grasslands and perch along the fenceposts stretching wire to divide up the prairie. This bald eagle watched me for 20 minutes before we parted ways. The warm, soft evening light worked well on the feathers and with the out of focus fields behind in this image.

Christopher, this is nice. I like the overall comp. The exposure looks good as does the sharpness and detail on the bird. I might apply some clock-wise rotation to this as many elements in the image seem to be tilted a bit to the left. Also, it would be great if you listed your techs in your image discription, knowing these really helps with providing a meaningful critique. Just some suggestions to make a nice image better. Cheers.

A strong image - subject, light, and composition come together nicely.

Very nice post Christopher. Love the detail and exposure. I do agree with Ron';s comments about the CW rotation and it would be nice knowing your techs.

Christopher,
Really nice!! I agree with Ron about a slight clock wise rotation though judging by the leaning post and some background elements that appear to be angling slightlu up from left to right. Otherwise you have a very strong image here. I love the light and the golden hues in the background. In the larger version there is lots of detail including hundreds of gnats. WOW!! Very beautiful Christopher. Thanks for sharing.

Looks almost three-dimensional, Christopher. Beautiful light and the background sets off the eagle very well. I like your composition too. Agree with the slight CW rotation suggestion.

Thank you for all of the comments. For those interested, here are my technical details: Canon 1D Mark III with a Canon 300/4L IS on ISO 400, 1/320 sec at f/5.6. The clockwise rotated version of the image is seen here - it is better - thank you for the constructive feedback.
