Light, Form and Texture

By now you have figured out that Verbatrum is one of my favorite subjects. Why is that?
First off they seem to have their own light source. Then take a look at those perfectly folded lines in each leaf, similar to the bellows of an accordion. After that you have the smooth deep green surface, unlike any other plant. I think it's safe to say this is pretty close to nature's perfection. That's why I love this plant and capturing it as an image.

As always thanks for taking a look. Any critique, opinion or anything else you would like to add would be much appreciated.

Awesome, Dean! Your love affair with the subject comes through big time in this one. The greens just glow and glow, while the little bit of purple adds a nice circular swirl around the main leaves. :toast:

A wonderful mix of greens and textures. The bluebells just set off the Verbatrum even more.

Fantastic shot Dean. The colors, the light and wonderful detail all brought together with a comp that really works! Pretty amazing to look at, and easy to see why this plant is a favorite. :toast:

Breathtaking Dean. This really glows - just beautiful. This might work well rotated vertically as well.

the glowing greens of the Verbatrum are just outstanding, Dean. but what really takes this over the top imo is the colour combination with the different green and blue of that other plant... stunning :toast:

Hamed, no, same WB for the whole image. The Bluebells always seem to be a bit more blue. Thanks for commenting.

Love it Dean. These Corn Lilies are amazing plants, but also very hard to photograph. You did a fantastic job with this one!

I can see why you look these as a subject. I love the neon greens, and the blue blooms sprinkled around the edges really complement the leaves.

Beautiful! Greens on the verbatrum glow against the more muted surrounding greenery. Nicely done.

Really love how you do light, Dean, and this comp shows it off so well. The title really says it all.

Dean,

Gorgeous color and clarity here. The top-down view, while not original certainly works beautifully here as I think this is very well designed. The only suggestion I have is a slight crop off the left side to clean up a few little intruding leaves and such. Otherwise, I'm guessing this will be printed... Beautiful work.

I agree with Lon, Dean. A bit of a crop as he suggested would be nice. The color is spot-on. I also love these plants, and I agree that they have glow to them.

This is a beautiful piece of work! :toast:

Dean, this is a very appealing play with shapes and tones for me. A dynamic composition with the various focal points to my eye. Perfect exposure and processing in my opinion.
