Keith,
A snipe on a perch with really a good background, vocalizing with a good head turn and catch light in his eye??? Are you kidding me. Terrific. I might take just a smige off the top. You had really good light as well. How are you liking that D7000?

Nice perch, background, detail. Question: what is between the upper and lower bill?

Thanks David and Allen,David i am really like my D7000 when i team it with my 300ml 2.8 i recon it works pretty good i have got an awful lot to learn but i do think the kit i have does make life a lot easier.
Allen it's its tongue i tried to get it showing it all but i should be very grateful for what the bird did give me.

Thanks again Keith.

Keith,

Thanks for the explanation. It may be an illusion on my screen, but the tongue appears to be coming from outside the mouth. I guess that's what threw me off. Again, a real nice shot. :toast:

A really nice look at this snipe Keith. Love the open bill, perch, and BG. Birds is sharp. To me there is a bit of a blue cast to the lighter area of the post and the bird's feathers. I am not good at judging color casts, but I think there is one happening here.

Congrats on capturing this Snipe off of the ground, Keith. Really nice detail in the Snipe. Although not natural, that weathered post works out well as a perch. Nice clean background.

I like the soft light in this a lot Keith! I was also perplexed by the thing by the bill and it does look like it is coming from out side the mouth...however, when you look at the larger image, there is some transparent skin on the underside of the bill and you can see the beginning of the tongue through the skin.

Nice Snipe shot indeed . (They never chipper like this for me.)
If you want honest critique then it is not quite sharp especially on the upper breast area especially on the large image..( and with a D7000 !! ) Maybe its my monitor - or my eyes.

Like the open beak pose, POV, and the details look excellent in the LP Keith..
Your eye follows the tongue down through the beak into its "see through" throat membrane, very cool
Great comp and BG, well done :toast:

Great to get one in the open and at eye level, Keith. The eye and head look sharp and the open beak & tongue add a lot. Wonderful background.
