I returned to the local dahlia farm for evening light. I found this flower to be very striking and so set up the rail for a 10 image stack. Their were a couple of OOF BG flowers that didn't contribute to the overall look so I cloned them out in PS.

Craig
Beautiful portrait in the 'Sampsonique' style. Great stack and clean bg to boot. Color looks good and the darkish look gives this a slightly mysterious mood. I like this very much as presented. Would probably work with square framing too. I am undecided about the clipped petal in the lower edge though.

Great details Craig, and I really like the BG colors. The bottom petal edge on the edge of the canvas bugs me a tad. If you can, I would add a bit of canvas and clone in a petal tip.

Craig, this is just striking!
Gorgeous colours, dark and moody BG to set the colours off perfectly, nice comp, and great presentation.
I too was on the fence about that clipped petal - but after coming back to this image 3 times, I believe it is a plus and adds interest.

I love the mood to this image and the colors are perfect. The center composition also works well. I wish the pedal on the bottom was not clipped...

The thumbnail doesn't do this justice. Great color palette and BG. :toast:

Great mood and depth in the colors creates drama. The petal "kissing" the edge can easily be fixed by either extending the canvas and adding a tip to the flower, or just cloning out some of the petal to make the tip within the borders. Well worth the effort IMHO. :toast:

Thanks for all your comments, I guess I was just lazy and thought I could slip this one with the clipped petal past you, but your sharp eyes are on the ball. Heres the updated version, fixed petal and more of a square format. I appreciate your comments and critiques!

This is beautiful work Craig. I'd put the first on my wall but it's the second I prefer. Gorgeous.

Marvelous setting, Craig. The pinks in the center and edges go very well with the dark background. I prefer the repost. :toast:

Love the repost, Craig  along with terrific processing. The petals moving in clockwise direction on the periphery gives it a sense of spin wheel motion.

I really like shade of Reds in the Dahlias.

The repost is beautiful Craig. I love the harmony of the almost monochromatic colors, the back light and the background. Excellent work fo me (a frame a bit lighter ?)
Take care.
