Field Flicker
by May Haga
Another image from my trip to Argentina. These birds were fairly common around the grounds of one of the lodges in the Ibera region.
Nikon D300s, f8, 1/800, ISO 200, 300 + 2 x tc, HH on my tummy.
Thanks for looking and critiques appreciated.

Lovely shot!
Sounds like another wonderful trip!
Does it's name imply that it is mostly a ground bird, as opposed to the N American flickers that prefer trees/woods?

Keith,
I'm loving your Argentina images. Most of these birds as you would imagine, I've never heard of or seen. Looks to me like you were belly crawling to get this perspcetive. Love it. Even with the harsh light you pulled this one off. Terrific colors and exposure. Very good, sharp details. Only nit and not really a nit is that it's a little bit tight all the way around. Keep them coming May. Great series so far.

To answer the questions regarding trees these birds do hang out in trees but spend more of their time on the ground than our flickers do. You often see them just as in May's photograph. In fact a lot of birds spend a lot of time on the ground in this part of Argentina.
