Sunrise on The Ramparts

A cloudy morning on the shoreline of Amethyst Lake in the Tonquin Valley west of Jasper, AB was wet and dreary with dull lighting taking hold as the sky brightened. Then, for about thirty seconds, the sun found a few holes above Clitheroe Mountain on the eastern side of the valley and the light brushed a few peaks along The Ramparts. Wet feet and cold hands were quickly forgotten while making the image and I went back to the cabin later quite happy.

Gorgeous light hitting the top of those peaks Christopher! Love those lichen encrusted foreground rocks as well.

The only nits I have is that the comp feels a little right heavy, and the horizon looks like it's ever so slightly tilted down to the left. A little lighter would be nice as well. Otherwise, great capture! :toast:

Stunning, Christopher! Well composed--strong throughout FG, MG, and BG.
The colors are spectacular.

The comp does feel a little right-heavy and I'd open up the shadows a little more too, but keeping with the dark appearance. I couldn't figure out the compositions here very well myself though. The best I've seen was Art Wolfe's rendition and the lighting here looks quite similar to that. Overall still quite a nice take on the place.

Wonderful comp and light and foreground and clouds and reflection. Shadows feels a bit too dark, but it sure creates quite a mood.

I like your composition. there's a lot going on in the sky. nice colors and it looks dramatic. The shadows are a bit too dark for my taste.

Really nice light Christopher. I do agree with Marc on opening up the shadows a tad.

Christopher,

I'm really enjoying the little drama of light going on in the sky and gracing the peaks. Also, the hint of that light and color reflecting in the still water is nice to have. I would agree with the others about opening up the shadows or at least revealing some detail in the mountain side. I don't mind the overall darkness as the timing and light in the sky kinda dictate the darkness, but the main mountain dominates and I think needs a little more detail.

Hi Chris, this is very nice one. I am not sure about processing though as it seems a little bit doggy but it might be my eyes.
